Within the rich tapestry of Christianity, we encounter various expressions of faith, worship styles, and interpretations of scripture. Yet, there exists a common ground—the shared understanding of essential truths and foundational beliefs that unify Christians across various denominations and worship traditions.
While we may belong to different church denominations (groups with distinct practices, rituals, and interpretations of the Bible), as Christians, we still have the same core beliefs.
A creed (which comes from the Latin word credo, meaning “I believe”) is a confession or statement of faith. It’s a way for us to say, “This is what we believe in.”
A catechism (which comes from a Greek word katecheo, meaning “to teach”) is simply a way to teach or instruct others, particularly new believers, in fundamental Christian beliefs. Catechisms are used for oral instruction. They are carefully structured and are usually set up in a question and answer format.
Creeds and catechisms have played crucial roles in shaping and preserving the unity of Christian beliefs across denominational lines and traditions. They affirm what Christians throughout history and across cultures have held as foundational truths.
In this supplement pack, we include some of the most well known creeds and catechisms as copywork. By copying and memorizing them, we gain a deeper appreciation and under- standing for foundational doctrines of the Christian faith.
