Gather your buccaneers together for a pirate tea time that even landlubbers will enjoy! Want more adventure? We’ve got fun ideas for parties too!

A Treasure Trove of Pirate Tea Time & Party Ideas
Who says “tea time” has to be tea and scones? Sometimes, even your rambunctious skallywags need a respite from their adventuring! If you’re looking for a treasure-trove of pirate tea time (or party) ideas, then keep scrolling! We’ve got a bounty of pirate-themed ideas and resources that will make your event the talk of the seven seas.
Here’s what we’ve got in store for you:
A Simple, But Fun Pirate Tea Time (or Picnic)
If you want to capture a bit of “high seas adventure” for your kids in a simple, yet fun way, then why not start with creating a pirate-themed tea time? For even more fun, move it outdoors for a picnic!

You could pull together a simple spread like we did above:
- Pirate Ships (apple slices with cheese slices as sails, and pirate flag toothpicks holding them together)
- Pirate Jewels (fresh fruit bowls)
- Fish n’ Chips (Ruffles and Goldfish crackers)
- Bloody Buddies (a slightly morbid take on “muddy buddies” with red food coloring)
- Pirate Gold (Rolo candies left in their golden wrappers)
- Cannon Balls (black olives or chocolate cake pops without the sticks)
- Ginger Ale or Root Beer Floats served in large tankards
Or create even more pirate-y treats, including edible treasure chests and tricorn hat cookies with peanut butter or chocolate nuggets cups in the center (below).

Poetry for Your Pirate Tea Time
Be sure to include some fun pirate poems to read, like the one below. Umm…maybe this one shouldn’t be read while eating. 😳 Perhaps a more “cutesy” and subdued pirate poem rather than one that captures the ruthless and lawless era of piracy, with bloodthirsty descriptions of shipboard battles?
(If yer faint o’ heart er stomach, be ye warned!) Ahem…
A Ballad of John Silver, by John Masefield
We were schooner-rigged and rakish, with a long and lissome hull,
And we flew the pretty colours of the cross-bones and the skull;
We’d a big black Jolly Roger flapping grimly at the fore,
And we sailed the Spanish Water in the happy days of yore.
We’d a long brass gun amidships, like a well-conducted ship,
We had each a brace of pistols and a cutlass at the hip;
It’s a point which tells against us, and a fact to be deplored,
But we chased the goodly merchant-men and laid their ships aboard.
Then the dead men fouled the scuppers and the wounded filled the chains,
And the paint-work all was spatter-dashed with other people’s brains,
She was boarded, she was looted, she was scuttled till she sank,
And the pale survivors left us by the medium of the plank.
O! then it was (while standing by the taffrail on the poop)
We could hear the drowning folk lament the absent chicken-coop;
Then, having washed the blood away, we’d little else to do
Than to dance a quiet hornpipe as the old salts taught us to.
O! the fiddle on the fo’c’s’le, and the slapping naked soles,
And the genial “Down the middle, Jake, and curtsey when she rolls!”
With the silver seas around us and the pale moon overhead,
And the look-out not a-looking and his pipe-bowl glowing red.
Ah! the pig-tailed, quidding pirates and the pretty pranks we played,
All have since been put a stop-to by the naughty Board of Trade;
The schooners and the merry crews are laid away to rest,
A little south the sunset in the Islands of the Blest.

Fair Winds, Me Hearties! May yer anchor be ever tight!
My son, Alec, daughter, Olivia, and I had way too much fun cosplaying pirates for ARTventure into Neverland. I’m not sure why Alec had his “hook” sticking in my hair…maybe he was going for my brain, but thankfully, I made it through this photoshoot...barely! Thanks for joining us on this high seas adventure! Let us know in the comments your favorite ideas for creating a fun pirate tea time!
